I did so when I was a young student and I did so mid-age, and in both cases it worked (initially, by accident) : an anger towards myself started developing and was cultivated by continuing to smoke. It facilitated quitting altogether, for many years. The first time, it was for about 10 years of non-smoking. The second time, it will be until I hit 65 in another 15 years from now.
